Boarding Up Services in Epsom
Boarding Up Epsom provides five boarding up services in Epsom: windows, doors, shopfronts, roofs and skylights, and empty properties. All five make a damaged or vulnerable opening safe and weathertight until the permanent repair is done. The difference is the opening and the building. This page explains what each service covers so you can work out which one you need, or tell us what’s happened and we’ll work it out with you on the call.
A person answers the phone 24 hours a day. If you need a board fitted tonight, call. If you’re planning ahead, call or email and we’ll talk it through.
Which boarding up service do I need in Epsom?
Start with what’s damaged or exposed:
- A broken or cracked window in a house, flat or office: window boarding
- A forced, split or insecure door, or a damaged frame or lock after a break-in: door boarding and securing
- A shop, restaurant, office or warehouse frontage, including large glazed panels and entrance doors: shopfront and commercial boarding
- A damaged roof area or broken skylight: roof and skylight boarding
- An empty house, flat or commercial unit that needs its windows and doors closed up: vacant property securing
Plenty of jobs involve more than one of these. A break-in often means a smashed window and a forced door. A storm can take out a skylight and a pane on the same side of the house. One visit can cover every opening we agree on the call.
Window boarding
This is the most common job. We cover broken, cracked or missing glass in sash, casement and fixed windows on any floor we can reach safely. Ground-floor windows usually go up quickly. Upper floors mean ladders and more careful planning, which is why we ask about height and access before quoting.
We normally use exterior-grade plywood, typically 18mm. OSB suits some smaller openings. Where the frame is sound we’ll use a non-destructive fixing method so the frame isn’t damaged further before the glazier arrives. Loose or hanging glass is made safe first.
Door boarding and securing damaged doors
A door that won’t lock is a different problem from a broken window. After a forced entry we look at the door, the frame and the lock together. Sometimes the door can be secured in place. Sometimes it needs boarding over. Sometimes the frame has split, and the frame has to be secured before any board will hold.
If the frame is too badly damaged for a straightforward fix, we’ll explain the options before starting so you can decide how to proceed. Anti-tamper security fixings are available where you need the boarding to be hard to remove from outside.
Shopfront and commercial boarding
Commercial property boarding in Epsom covers shops, offices, restaurants and warehouses. Shopfronts tend to have larger panels, recessed entrances and mixed materials, so they need more board and a fixing plan that suits the frame. Epsom’s town centre has a real mix: shop terraces along High Street and Waterloo Road, restaurants on South Street, and older town houses on West Street now used as offices.
If your premises are in a listed building or in the town centre conservation area, tell us on the call. That helps us plan the fixing approach. We’ll use non-destructive fixing where the frame allows.
Roof and skylight boarding
Storm damage, falling branches and break-ins through rooflights can all leave a hole in the top of the building. We board over damaged skylights and roof areas to keep the weather out until a roofer or glazier can do the permanent repair.
Height and access matter most here. Please don’t go onto a roof or under a damaged section to take a closer look. Tell us what you can see safely from the ground or from inside, and send photographs if you can take them without risk.
Vacant property securing
Landlords, letting agents and owners use this service to secure empty houses, flats and commercial units. We board the windows and doors of the empty property so it’s closed up against entry and the weather. It’s usually planned rather than urgent, so we can agree which openings to board, which access door you want left usable, and whether anti-tamper fixings are worth it.
What every service includes
Whatever the opening, a visit follows the same steps:
- On the call: we take the postcode, work out an arrival time, ask about the openings and access, and give you a free, clear quote before any work starts.
- On arrival: we check the openings, make loose glass and debris safe, and confirm the agreed work.
- The work: the van carries boarding stock and fixings. We fit boards to suit each opening and frame.
- Afterwards: you get an itemised invoice, time-stamped before and after photographs, and a written statement of the work done. These help if you’re making an insurance claim. Your insurer decides what’s covered.
Boarding is a make-safe. It keeps the property secure and dry so you can arrange the permanent glazing, door or roof repair in your own time.
We’ve been boarding up for over 10 years. We’re fully insured, and the certificate is available on request. Our staff are DBS-checked.
What affects the quote
Every job is priced on the call. The main factors are the number and size of openings, height and access, the materials and board thickness, the fixing method, whether a damaged door or frame needs securing first, and how much glass or debris needs making safe. Our pricing page explains each factor in more detail.
Not sure what you need?
If you’d rather start from what happened than from the type of opening, our situations guide covers burglary, fire and storm damage. We work across Epsom and nearby areas, including Ewell and Ashtead.
Tell us about the job
Call 01372 656234 any time, day or night, or Email us. It helps if you give us:
- your postcode
- which openings are affected, and roughly how big they are
- which floor they’re on and how we can reach them
- photographs, if you can take them safely
We’ll tell you which service fits, agree the work and the quote, and arrange the visit.
