Emergency Boarding Up in Epsom, 24 Hours a Day

If a window’s been smashed, a door forced or a roof light broken, our emergency boarding up service in Epsom can make the opening safe and secure tonight. A person answers the phone 24 hours a day, and we attend at any hour, including nights, weekends and bank holidays.

Call 01372 656234 now. Have your postcode ready so we can work out an arrival time for your address while we’re talking.

What to do right now

Before anything else, keep yourself and everyone else safe.

  • Stay clear of broken glass. Keep children and pets out of the room. Don’t try to pull loose shards out of a frame.
  • Don’t go near anything that looks unstable. That includes sagging ceilings, loose roof sections and fire-damaged areas. If the fire service has attended, we can secure openings once they’ve handed the site back.
  • After a break-in, call the police and keep the crime reference number. Contact your insurer when you can.
  • Take photographs only if it’s safe. Wide shots and close-ups are useful, but don’t stand under damaged glass or climb anything.
  • Then call us. You don’t need to tidy up or wait until morning.

What we’ll ask on the call

The call is where the useful work starts. We’ll ask for:

  1. Your postcode. We use it to work out an arrival time for your address. We don’t promise fixed attendance times because they depend on where you are and what we’re already attending.
  2. What’s broken. A window, a door, a shopfront, a skylight, and roughly how big.
  3. Where it is. Ground floor, upper floor or roof, plus any access issues such as a narrow side passage, a locked rear yard or a shopfront facing a busy street.
  4. Whether a door or frame is damaged. A forced door, a split frame or a broken lock changes what’s needed.
  5. Safe photographs, if you have them. Send them by email or as we arrange on the call. They help us bring the right board sizes and fixings.

You’ll get a free, clear quote on the call before any work starts. We don’t put prices on the website because every job is different. The price depends on the number and size of openings, height and access, board type and thickness, the fixing method, whether a door or frame needs securing first, and how much glass or debris needs making safe.

What we secure out of hours

Our van carries boarding stock and fixings, so most urgent jobs can be secured on the first visit once we’ve seen the opening.

  • Broken windows. Urgent window boarding for houses, flats and commercial buildings, from small panes to large sashes. More detail is on our window boarding page.
  • Forced or damaged doors. We secure doors, frames and locks after forced entry, so the property can be closed up again. See door boarding and securing.
  • Shopfronts and commercial premises. Shops, offices, restaurants and warehouses, including large glazed frontages.
  • Roofs and skylights. Broken roof lights and damaged sections, boarded where it’s safe to work.
  • Empty properties. Windows and doors of vacant or void properties that have been broken into or left exposed.

How we make it safe

We’ll start by clearing loose glass and debris from the opening so it’s safe to work on and safe for you afterwards. Then we fit boards cut to size.

For most windows and doors we use exterior-grade plywood, typically 18mm. For smaller openings, OSB is sometimes the sensible choice. Where security matters, such as ground-floor windows, rear doors and shopfronts, we can use security or anti-tamper fixings that are much harder to remove from outside.

Where the frame allows, we fix in a way that limits further damage, which makes the later repair easier. That matters in older buildings. Much of Epsom’s town centre, including the High Street and parts of West Street, South Street and Waterloo Road, sits in a conservation area, and many buildings there are listed. If your property is one of them, mention it on the call and we’ll talk through the fixing approach.

If a frame is too badly damaged to hold a board securely, we won’t just screw into it and hope. We’ll explain the options before going further, so you can decide how to proceed.

What you have when we leave

  • Made-safe openings, boarded and fixed as agreed on the call.
  • An itemised invoice for the work done.
  • Time-stamped before and after photographs.
  • A written statement of the work carried out.

That paperwork is put together with insurers in mind. Your insurer decides what’s covered, and we’re not loss adjusters or legal advisers, but clear records usually make the conversation simpler. Our insurance claims guide explains what to keep. If you’ve had a break-in, our page on what to do after a burglary covers the next steps in more detail.

Boarding is a make-safe that keeps the property secure and weathertight until the permanent glazing or door repair is done. It buys you time to arrange that properly.

Who you’ll be dealing with

Boarding Up Epsom is an independent local boarding-up service with over 10 years’ experience. We’re fully insured, and the certificate is available on request. We’re also DBS-checked, which matters when we’re working in someone’s home late at night or around a shop’s stock.

Coverage for emergency callouts

We cover Epsom and the surrounding area, including Ewell and Ashtead. We also attend Stoneleigh, Langley Vale and Epsom Downs, subject to confirming your address on the call. Give us your postcode and we’ll tell you straight away.

Common questions

Can you board up a broken window tonight? In most cases, yes. A person answers 24 hours a day, and we’ll work out the arrival time from your postcode on the call.

Do I need to be there? Usually, yes, or someone who can give access and agree the work. Landlords and agents can arrange access for tenants or empty properties. Tell us on the call.

Will the price change when you arrive? The quote is agreed on the call before any work starts. If we find something different on site, such as a frame that won’t hold, we’ll explain it and agree any change with you before doing it.

Should I wait for my insurer first? Securing the property promptly is generally sensible, but check your policy and speak to your insurer. We’ll give you the paperwork they’re likely to ask for.
